The Children's Learning Center (CLC) is comprised of 20 preschool and school-age classrooms. Our students range in age from 3 years to 21 years of age. Our classrooms have low student-to-teacher ratios ensuring individualized attention and specialized instruction for all of our students. In addition, our students benefit from related services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. These services are integrated into the school day to provide a holistic approach to each child's development.
School-based speech/language therapy supports communication skills (whether it be verbal or non-verbal) as well as feeding skills. Our speech/language therapists work to improve students' receptive and expressive language skills for pre-language and language development. Our speech/language therapists are well versed in a variety of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems to best support student communication. SLP's at CLC are trained to address feeding and swallowing disorders from a nutritional, social and oral developmental viewpoint.
School-based occupational therapy supports academic achievement and social participation by developing students' functional skills needed to engage in everyday school activities and routines. Occupational therapists work on improving students' fine/gross motor skills, sensory processing skills, play and socialization skills, and the ability to perform prevocational tasks and self-care activities needed to transition to adult roles and community integration.
The school-based physical therapist promotes motor development and the student's participation in every day routines and activities that are part of his or her school educational program as it relates to the Individualized Educational Program (IEP). Using their unique expertise in movement and function, physical therapists ensure a free and appropriate education for students with disabilities to prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living. They focus on developing safe and efficient functional mobility skills, gross motor skills, as well as improving postural alignment and positioning in everyday school routines and activities.
Adapted Physical Education (APE) is a specialized program designed to meet the unique physical, motor, and social needs of students with disabilities.
